Église Notre-Dame de Chaumont-sur-Yonne
The Église Notre-Dame de Chaumont-sur-Yonne is a significant historical monument, with its construction dating back to 1132. It was founded by Salon, the Viscount of Sens, and is considered a contemporary of the renowned Sens Cathedral.
Built in several phases, the church exhibits a mix of Romanesque and Gothic (ogival) architecture. Notable features include an impressively sized bell tower that is visible from a distance, as well as a striking sanctuary. This sanctuary is distinguished by its five narrow, slightly Gothic windows bordered by fine columns, culminating in a semi-dome vault—a rare configuration for a village church. The structure is an important part of French religious heritage, having been inscribed as a Monument Historique since 1926.
